Who’s Idea Was This Anyway?

Hi everyone, it’s Stu here to keep you updated on the renovation –    Now that we are in full swing, we must ask the question: Did all those years watching HGTV and the DIY network pay off? A definate maybe… time will tell…  The problem is that the DIY network makes you believe that you can actually … umm – Do It Yourself. We left the heavy lifting to the pros and undertook a few tasks that may have been over our head – like taking down the ceiling. (No pun intended) and installing the floor. No job is beneath us! (pun intended) So far there are no broken bones and our marriage is still intact so we have declared it a success – so far. Oh no, the jinx is on. professional photographer

We needed a sledgehammer so we called our favorite* employee and sure bet -Julie! She was on our doorstep in ten minutes with the bad boy and a look of “say hello to my little friend” on her face. Not sure if we should be happy or frightened… The business end of this thing had a sledgemanner on one side and an axe on the other. Time to multi-task. And, like any experienced worker, she brought the hard hat and the iced coffee, too!

*We’ll introduce you to our other favorite employee later.

This is the answer to the age-old question: What do you think will happen if we cut this wire? I guess that’s why it’s called a dropped ceiling.

After we pried the combination sledgehammer-slash-axe thing from Julie’s hands – it ended up here. It’s really fun to slam this into something and know that you are not gonna get in trouble like when you were a kid. We estimated that only 102,996 more swings and the wall would be down! Back to work…

You never know what you will find hiding up in the ceiling. We found this guy. Just kidding – but we did find enough wires to circle the globe – twice. Fortunately, the guys from Feuersenger Electric are the best in the business. One thing we learned from the DIY network was to hire the pros for the electrical work.

Remember the wall with the sledgehammer in it? Well, here’s the “after” photo. We are beginning to see our vision take shape and it’s really getting exciting now. The remaining support beam is not our favorite thing but it holds up the entire building so were probably gonna leave it in place – but we’re not sure. 😉

Thanks for stopping by! See you in a week. Stu
