Updated Headshots ~ Ramsey NJ Headshot photographer

When was your last head shot? Can you honestly say you that it still reflects who your are?

Amanda knows the importance of an accurate head shot and she returned to photography by SKY during her winter break from college to take advantage of our Head Shot for life program*.

These are Amanda’s shots from two years ago. A recent High School graduate heading off to College, Amanda was entering the Theater program. We chose two different looks for her, one more theatrical with a serious look and one more commercial with a big bright smile.

And here is Amanda today.

Amanda has blossomed into a beautiful confident young woman and her updated head shots really reflect that. Proud of having lost a bit of weight and donning a new hair style,  Amanda brings a new attitude to her photos.

Locks of Love ~ Ramsey, NJ Photographer

I often talk about being blessed with fantastic clients. It is truly an honor to share in so many memories with such fabulous people. Every once in a while though, I am truly blown away by the gifts they give me. In this case it was the opportunity to photograph one of my little dancers, whose family I have had the pleasure of photographing for many years now. “K” decided on her own to donate her hair to a little girl who didn’t have any. “K” has had long hair since I first met her in 2009 and I have to admit I was nervous that she might not understand the magnitude of what she was about to do – her response to her Mom when she expressed concern was “Mom, it’s just hair, it will grow back!”. So “K” did understand the magnitude ~ she understood that there are children out there that have lost their hair to leukemia and that she had the opportunity to help them!!!

I have always thought “K” was beautiful, but I think she is absolutely radiant in the after photos! “K” – thank you for letting me share in your special day!

Home For The Holidays!

What a perfect way to kick off the Holiday season in Ramsey! A parade, a marching band, lots of firetrucks and a great crowd out to enjoy the evening. It was also a wonderful evening at Photography By SKY. Plentyof familiar faces (and some new ones, too!) stopped in for a hot chocolate and to have an impromptu Holiday photo taken. Photography by SKY is proud to donate all of the proceeds of the evening to the Ramsey Fire Department – A hard hard working team that passionately volunteer their time to serve – and enhance the quality of life – of our community. We were honored to be part of this wonderful evening!

Black & White Friday – Ramsey, NJ Photographer

Guess What? At SKY, we are celebrating Black Friday, too! –  but sorry – there is no sale… or special promotion… or 3:00 am opening.

For us it’s Black & White Friday! We thought that we would present some of our favorite Black & White portraits and provide a few quick tips that can help create mood and make Black & White photography so captivating –  and often much more interesting than color photography.

When we plan a portrait in Black & White, we know that we want to concentrate on the emotion in a relationship. Think about getting close so your subject fills the frame. Notice, with the lack of visual clutter and the dark background, we have been able to create a truly intimate moment.

Mother and Daughter Portrait

In this next example, we can see how cropping an image can alter the message – and possibly the emotional impact. The photo below emphasizes the relationship between the mother and child at a special time in their lives; expecting Mommy’s new baby.

Waiting for baby

But by cropping the image later we now have a portrait of a beautiful moment between big brother and his soon to arrive little sister.

Big Brother

Converting color images to Black and White also helps to unify a portrait. In the example below, the brother’s outfit was far more casual then his twin sister’s lace dress. By printing the portrait in Black and White we have a portrait that focuses on the children’s faces and less on their clothing choice creating a more dramatic look.

Business Headshots – Ramsey, NJ Photographer

The Dator Team of Coldwell Banker, returned this past July for their annual image shoot. As the realtors who walked us through the Ramsey Zoning issues last year, it is always a pleasure to see them.

Made up of the husband and wife teams of Bill and Linda Dator and Kevin and Laura O’Rourke, the Dator team knows the importance of having an updated business  head shot and great images for their website and print needs. Because the Dator Team services both residential and commercial real estate clients, they need a selection of images available for their different advertising mediums. We photographed the whole team together, then the residential team and the commercial team separately and finally we updated their individual images for their business cards.  I always enjoy my time with this very fun-loving group, and their images reflect their enthusiastic personalities.

Meet the Artist, Ramsey NJ

Last night’s  “Meet the Artist: Lisa Ferrante”  kicked off the first of many Guest Artists shows planned at photography by SKY’s studio. This was a great opportunity to meet Lisa and see her artwork close up. Lisa is a popular mixed-media artist who has
quickly become known for her unique style and vision.
Every piece she creates is truly one-of-a-kind but bears the trademark of
her unmistakable and eye catching style.
Lisa’s artwork has been featured in Somerset Studio magazine
as well as on the cover of Wild Sister magazine last month.

Check out Lisa on etsy: http://www.etsy.com/shop/chloeandsofiasmom

Big thank you to Lisa for being our first artist and many thanks to all who came and enjoyed the evening and supported Lisa!

Love Is Sweeter the Second Time Around!

Anne & Frank were blessed with a gorgeous evening to celebrate their wedding at the Indian Trail Club in Franklin Lakes. They were a sweet reminder that true love can sneak up on you at any age. (Even though Anne still looks like a teenager… Don’t you just hate her!) Her wonderful children truly reveled in their moms happiness and it was evident during the touching toast. Thank you guys for allowing me to document this wonderful event!

Family Portraits, Ramsey NJ

The “kids” are never too old for a family portrait! The boys came in from their NYC jobs Easter weekend to give Mom a great gift – an updated Family Portrait. Their last one was over 15 years ago. It was a great opportunity not only for Mom and Dad, but the sons also got updated photos for their apartments.
