Friday The 13th – The final (renovation) chapter

Hi everyone! We are back with the final installment of our riveting 3-part mini-series entitled  “A Game of Groans”. (Sorry HBO) As you know, Kat & I decided to install a bamboo floor in our Photography Studio. We could have hired a professional but that would have been too easy… So, being gluttons for punishment, we endeavored to do it ourselves. It turns out that all we needed was: 1) bamboo 2) rubber mallet, and 3) a phd in calculus. We learned alot during the process, however, it can all be summed up with the following equation:  (Bamboo + rubber mallet = #*&@!). Actually, 8 1/2 of my fingers ended up unscathed – which Kat considers a success… I’m not sure that I feel the same – and my progress in angry birds will certainly suffer. However, we both do agree that it was worth the effort and that the results are very satisfying!

Here is John Bushman. John likes tools. John has lots of cool tools. John is one of the main reasons that we absolutely love the final results of the renovation. Choosing a contractor is difficult – and less fun than a blood transfusion – but we hit the jackpot. Imagine this: He shows up on time and actually does exactly as he says.

This is Julie with her freshly painted nails (yes – the same Julie who showed up with the sledgehammer) Isn’t this what all hard working gals do immediately after leaving the salon? Reach for the nearest rubber mallet and get to work.

This next pic is for everyone except the Ramsey Fire Marshall. This is what you encounter when you try to enter through the back door and you forgot where you had placed the two doors that you were just about to paint. (We have since moved them!)

This section actually took some finesse. Since it was our starting point, it gave us the confidence to continue. The formula we used to come up with the proper cuts is so complicated, we can’t even figure it out. I think it was E=mc².

Here is a pic of the final electrical work. It’s not as pretty as we hoped but we were assured that it would pass inspection. 😉

Finally… our completed floor! It is so beautiful that we didn’t want to walk on it – which is kind of weird since the whole purpose of a floor is to… Uh, I don’t think we need to explain. Suffice it to say that the finished job brought a tear to our eye. And, it’s a good preview of some of the real final electrical work.

We hope you all stop by photography by SKY soon to see the completed job!
